Aanya Shetty, 2022 WinnerIn preparation for the Scripps National Spelling Bee, the Columbia Missourian hosted the regional spelling bee to determine which Missouri child would proceed to the 2022 Spelling Bee Nationals in Washington DC.
For the 2022 spelling season, the Missourian opened organization efforts to students involved in the School of Journalism’s event planning course. Through this course, I joined the event’s art team.

My goal with this logo was to distinguish the Columbia Missourian Regional Bee from the National Bee. Thus, I strayed away from school-inspired typefaces and leaned into a groovy aesthetic. This carried over to the welcome signs, spelling ID bibs, and more.
