Elate Beauty: Finding how to brand with passion.
Rebranding Elate Beauty throughout my Strategic Design and Visuals II course proved I could find great fulfillment by designing for brands I was passionate about. This rebrand included the company’s logo, accompanied by a variety of campaign mockups.

Logo Concept Sketches
Top three concepts: 4, 7, 14
When sketching new logo ideas for Elate Cosmetics, I focused heavily on nature-based imagery. The majority of my concepts relied on floral or greenery patterns. It was not until I came up with the concept of changing the spelling of the brand name in the logo presentation from Elate to EL8 that I felt comfortable straying away from a floral-inspired logo. The new presentation of the brand name freshened the logo while leaving the right amount of mystery to intrigue consumers to seek out more information.
Elate Cosmetics branding in 2021 was in dire need of modernization. The lotus flower-inspired imagery was not working to attract young, environmentally conscious consumers in the way the brand intended.
My main goal was to modernize the logo in a way that alludes to the brand’s relationship with sustainability. Rather than explicitly showing customers Elate’s ties to nature, I utilized a pastel, floral-inspired color pallet to provide a backdrop for the new logo. This logo is intended to prompt consumers to stop and stare for just a second. With cosmetics packaging in mind, I decided this logo will pop on the shelves next to its competition, rather than blending in as it did before.
Print Ads
The “bunny-free beauty” campaign began here. By positioning the brand as the clear option for cruelty-free and vegan cosmetics, Elate can attract consumers with a passion for animal safety.
This print campaign was designed to attract established makeup users to the brand. The term “cut your crease” an eyeshadow application technique.
The ad is designed to attract consumers that want to make an environmentally conscious change in their makeup routine.
Interactive Web Design
Our final assignment was to design an interactive, creative website subpage on behalf of our brand. I decided to move forward with the “botanical beauty” campaign in our web executions.
This mockup includes a variety of features unique to Elate’s site. Design intricacies include: the foundation shades in the plant pot rotate as the user selects an alternate shade of foundation and the white outlines and abstract shapes of the foundation tones would be programmed to shift.
Out of Home Advertising
Above is an outdoor execution of the “botanical beauty” campaign. This series focused on the packaging Elate uses, a wildflower seed paper that can be planted to grow marvelous assortments of florals.
This out of home execution would develop deep customer connections. By allowing potential consumers to design their own bouquet of wildflowers, this interactive design would stimulate creative potential as well as customer connection to environmental protection.
Each guest would leave with an assortment of florals wrapped in branded wildflower paper. Chalk signs would advertise the event and include a call to action. Ideally, this event would position Elate as the go-to sustainable makeup brand for event attendees.
